holy crap i can't believe it's been two months since val arrived, TWO MONTHS!!! it's been very cool so far, she's happier and grinnier than ever and last night, she was half asleep from 1am-3am, fussed for a little bit, then slept from 3-8:30! excellent. she also did well with her first unfamiliar sitter last night, crying for only 10 minutes so liz could continue her triumphant return to the ice and play her first game with me. val was raging pretty hard while we trying to leave, breaking my heart with her wails and arching herself out of the carseat. i wanted to bail on the game but liz managed to calm her down and get her strapped in. so, the game. the other team had a short bench of 8 and we not only had a pretty full bench, but we were stacked. i think there were only 4 of us that didn't play on the ateam1 and holy crap, it was a fast game, ridiculously fast. i don't think i ever skated so fast, but clearly playing with much faster guys forced me to skate as fast and hard as i could. holy crap, my groin hurts, which usually means i skated hard. (jennie, don't read this!) must remember to put mouthguard in when playing coed. someone came up from behind and swept out my left leg, causing me to do a comical flop on my butt. i landed and crunched my teeth together and thought, ah HA! this is why people always ask if hockey players have their teeth. unbeknownst to them, it's not from fighting, it's from falling and biting down with no mouthguard. luckily it wasn't an expensive epiphany as my teeth were intact. it was a fun game, and it was SO NOT beginner if we had a stacked bench and came out with a 1-1 tie. their goalie was ridiculously good, stealing many goals from us. after the game, he took off his helmet and omg, what a baby! must've been 18 or thereabouts. nice guy, awesome goalie. picked up the wee one, got home around 1, fell asleep on the couch until 2:30, stumbled into bed around 3, fed and changed her, put her down, slept until she woke up around 8, fed and changed her, put her back down in her bassinet, where she was lonely so took her back out and held her until we both fell asleep until my alarm went off. thinking i'd get into work somewhat early (before 10), i made the fatal mistake of snoozing a few cycles and then turning it off because i was about to get up. woke up at 11:30, cursed and showered and took off. i've been hearing about people's schedules for their kids and really hoping that val will be able to be on the no-schedule method. |
