weekend update
friday, val and i went to watch liz's first game back to maroon and she did great, making nice passes and getting an unaccredited assist in a nice 6-2(?) win. an excellent game to make your triumphant return to hockey! woo!

saturday, uhm, went to play with the girls? oh wait, thanks to susan's memory, i remember now that we went to the great mall to go shopping.

sunday, uhm, don't know what we did during the day. i thought about working on the now-neglected front lawn, but it was hot so val and i napped and napped, then went to see the devil wears pr@da with ellaine. went to bob's for some mediocre chinese food since they're open late and we hadn't been there in forever. lady fawned over val and stared for much of the night. very disconcerting.

susan came over after her night of boozing to hold val for awhile.

monday, went to work, went to belmont to watch val while liz practiced with the gay games team. watched a little bit of the practice, but just spent most of the time staring at val's funny expressions. i think we found ourselves at el torito for an unsatisfying dinner because giovanni's was closed and we couldn't think of any place else to eat.

tuesday, met lucinda and jen for the chili festival in palo alto. it was fun, but the chili was a little disappointing. some were bland, some were soupy, some were all meat, some were weird. there is no excuse for bad chili. i liked two, elmo's and the PA fire fighters' but in the end, i like my own. =D

anyway, it was fun, something different. afterwards, went over to bill and susan's for a little bbq and hanging out. bill made my most favoritest burger in the world, which i scarfed and attempted another. i have no self-control, as i also had a double helping of susan's homemade vanilla ice cream. i felt my fat tripling but did i stop? nooo.

wednesday, worked from home so i could go see cars with val and the girls. it was diaper days at the theater, the one day out of the month where people could bring their kids with them to watch a movie. it was PACKED!

there was plenty of crying and talking and general chaos, but it was actually really nice to be able to relax and watch the movie without worrying that val's crying might bother other people. she didn't make much noise and slept through most of it, quite the opposite of the devil/prada outing. i was definitely much more relaxed and the noise didn't bother me at all, which i was surprised about.

sam and riley were surprisingly uninterested in the movie but were good despite it, eating their apple slices and popcorn and being quiet for how boring it must've been for them. we took up 6 seats, liz and i on opposite ends and they ran between us, trying to get past my legs that were holding them hostage while keeping out the kid next to me that was intent on invading our space. at one point, riley sat in my lap, which was really cute, then sam wanted up. a little squishy but we made it work. sam lost interest and went to sit in susan's lap. riley went to sit there too but then returned to my lap shortly thereafter and snuggled in.

all in all, i'd say it was successful even if i was beat when we got home. worked for a few hours, napped briefly (ok, passed out over my laptop), then had a few more productive hours before a late dinner at chili's, followed by a toffee crack run to susan's to cap off the night.
