weekend update friday, watched liz sub in a maroon game. they were down most of the game but came back in the third period to win it. woo! saturday, woke up late, hustled to get lunch and wracked my brain for "something different" to bring to mcjedi's bbq, coming up empty. i was having pastitsio for lunch and ding! it was different and i didn't think anyone else would be bringing it, perfect! ordered two to go, then got over to their house to hang out with friends outside of a hockey rink. =) had a very nice time, thanks mcjedi! i dipped my feet in the pool while peter and i tried to get the sub working, but it wasn't cooperating, even after a battery change. peter had taken the whole thing apart and had it mostly working but couldn't get the fourth button to work. i gave up and became mesmerized with the chocolate fountain. mmm, so good! so yummy. so heart stopping. i sampled everything and tried to back away, lest i fall face first into the flowing goodness from sugar shock. there was another couple there with a toddler and, as i'm starting to realize with every parent we encounter, we learn new things, either about parenting or about how different we might do things. i know that sounds like a no-brainer, but hey, i'm new at this and just started noticing. this is not a judgement on the parents we meet, it's more like an education for me, because i'm definitely taking notes. i should start writing them down because i'm definitely getting forgetful in my old age. like, i forget that we're not always surrounded by our friends who have no problems with us, so it's interesting to see/hear how people react to gay parents. i forget that we're gay, just like i forget i'm chinese. they're both things i'm proud of but i don't need to be in-yer-face about it, i just...am. if you have issue with either of those things, then you can go away. to that end, i'm also forgetting that we're not exactly a "typical" family unit and wonder how much "education" we're expected to do. i don't like confrontation, so it was a good thing that i was not present when someone shared their opinion that "gays should not marry." my blood would've boiled over and rendered me speechless. anyway, had a lovely time and headed home after a few hours of munching on cool and different things. parsnip pancakes i think were my surprise favorites, i didn't get to try any meats because i was saving myself for the fountain of yumminess. where did we go? right, old navy and storables on saratoga, then walked down to target for things. did we have dinner? i don't remember. wait, yes we did. popeye's. i had the fried catfish. not awful, not great either. got home, hung out with val. =) sunday, woke up late again, grabbed mcd's, then dropped in at a friend's kids' birthday party at this cute little swim center in santa clara. two people we were no longer friends with were there, as i knew they'd be, but i had hoped things would be civil enough that we could be be in the same space without awkwardness. stupid me, i'd forgotten their penchant for pettiness. they walked with said friend, who was headed over to left soon after to get to my red game in fremont. it was another close game, made more scary by the strong subs they'd gotten, i felt like i was chasing a lot because i was certainly tired early. it was hard keeping up with the short, asian line. i'd laughed about it with members of that team at yesterday's bbq and it's a mostly accurate statement. i miss rwc for the stamina building games where we played 15 minute shifts. my D pair said she skated more on D in this game than she did on center in other games. i wasn't sucking wind as hard as i normally do, but i wasn't too happy with my play either, felt slow and was slow to cover. faced mcjedi on a breakaway, who got it to dana, who took a shot (or two?) and finally got it up over our goalie. what took me so long to get there?! no idea. we somehow held them to the one goal for three periods. dang, i was tired, played a little goonish, didn't make any shots, cursed, and chased a lot. amy and then cheddah made up for my pokiness by scoring a goal apiece. whew. and yay. stayed and watched the green game afterwards, while liz took val to susan's so she could get to her game. timing had it such that i couldn't make the ateam2 game if i went up to belmont. if the bench wasn't so short, i'd've skipped the game. anyway, the green game was fun to watch. twice i yelled at carolyn to score and twice, she came back with a point, though the second is debatable since the puck was already over the line when she poked at it. sue also scored when i hollered at her to score. the power i have! now why can't i do that for myself? left that game to get home and take a short nap before my game. suckiest suck suck game, which goes along with the sucky suck suck season. they always twiddle with the lowest division, combining the two lowest whenever they feel like it and we end up getting trounced. really wasn't worth showing up, we lost 2-8, i sucked so bad that i could be -15. went to harry's for a late dinner and consoled myself with jello and whipped cream. =) *snort* i'm doing admin stuff for this list i moderate and there's an address that sounds like "booger" in chinese. of course i'm LMAO. =D Wednesday, July 26, 2006
argh i'm not normally anal retentive, but there are some things i go a little nuttayyy with, then wonder why the heck i'm bothering because no one cares except me, which, if you think about it, is really a personal issue. anyway! thanks to flickr, i'm having one of those moments. my val set has 516 pics (whoa), so i thought i'd start a new set, which i did, but then i thought i'd make them be 2 month increments, you know, a definitive stretch of time, so i went back and put the last 10 days into the new set (10 = 95 pics) which then takes my original set down to 421, which isn't as unwieldy as 516. now i have to go back and remove the last 10 days from the first set, then rename the title of the first and second sets. and it's not even a physical album...thank GOD. reason #10 why joe basura rocks the right part of our front lawn had been languishing for months now. i had put all my sweat into the left side, mainly because it was the bigger part and the hose was on that side, making it easy to put on some kind of timer. i had quickly put down the weed block on both side but i didn't do anything with right side and sure enough, the weeds came back in the places that weren't covered well. i'm assuming the birds also tore apart the weed block since i soon only had strips tacked down by the fabric pegs. the weeds grew along the edges, especially bad along the side separating us and the neighbors driveway. these were insidious fuckers, running along and under the walkway, making the removal of the roots really difficult. i'd get about 2 feet done every few weeks, losing interest quickly or not even try in this heat, then i'd notice with dismay that the weeds returned to the areas i had just done. it was a losing battle. sunday night, after returning from the practice-that-didn't-happen, i noticed that the right side was unusually clean. ??? joe trash came over, on one of the hottest days of the year, and cleared it all out and leveled it. without asking. i almost cried i was so happy. love that guy. now i just have to get a hold of him to find out how much i owe him! ha! Gangstas, Inc. Soon Learned Not to Hold Public Staff Meetings. look around, some of it's funny, some of it, not so much. i've been poking around the at the beach one. this one cracked me up. what can i say, i'm easily amused. belated weekend update i swore that i would remember what we did last weekend and well, here i am, not remembering much. ah ha! i remember now (days later)! starting thursday, i worked from home so we could leave early for berkeley for the first gathering in a series. a visitor from the moms mailing list was in the area so we met up at fondu3 fred's. the food was a little disappointing this time around, can't even put a finger on why, but the company was excellent. lucinda and jen joined us too and after much food, we went to their place to "visit". had a great time and was definitely sad to leave but it was getting late and if we didn't leave, we would've stayed all night. friday, liz and val picked me up at work so we could get a head start getting up to my first lesbian potluck. all was going well, we'd hit pockets of traffic, but it wasn't bad, until we saw signs for dublin and realized something went terribly wrong. we had gone east when we should've gone west. once we realized our mistake, we started laughing about "being out of the race", the amazing race, that is. we recovered quickly and made it to the destination without further mess ups. liz made potato stuff, my favorite dish, and i made the ambrosia salad. didn't have any as i was busy stuffing my face of potato stuff, noting that it was a good thing that she didn't make this all the time or i would be much larger. (ooh, speaking of which, i have some leftovers in the fridge right now! brb.) hrm, upon further thought, it's a mailing list gathering of lesbians and not so much a meet-new-friends potluck since we were already friends with most of the participants. right? and wait, i think i've been to a potluck or two at wen's. 'sok, i consider this one to be my first potluck of my 30's. =D saturday, got up late, went to dim sum for lunch, then went to baby super to check out a cheap stroller that liz wanted to get so we wouldn't have to worry about damaging or losing our really, really nice one in disneyland. i know, a bit paranoid but i would hate for anything to happen to my nice stroller (wow, did i just say that?) i was not too keen to pay for a new one and tried to convince liz of the cheap "shopping cart" model that i honestly didn't like myself. we sat there for quite some time, she didn't like my choice, i didn't like hers. we decided to think about it some more but when liz pushed my shopping cart back to its place, she noticed a closeout stroller that fit the bill. major bonuses: half the price, nicer material, and most importantly, both of us liked it. score! went home, hung out for a second before it was time to leave for my red makeup game. we played some good hockey, i think i was +2/-2. =/ the first was a great example of a triangle by cheddah, lindsay and amy. they fought for it, got the put to amy, who was standing in front and she thwacked it in. textbook! the second goal, mary took a shot from the point, but it went up off a D's stick and over the goalie. i'll take it! they tied it up in the third, with a 1:56 left. i yelled for us to score, we were on a power play? but then i corrected myself to say "score with 5 seconds left!" doris must've heard me because she scored with 16.2 seconds left. excellent! i had no more legs and was dreading the OT but i thought i had enough to fend off the other team for 16 seconds! we won 3-2 in another nail biter. we had a slow start in the season but we are markedly improving with every game. love my team, really happy with everyone, we all get along. =) went out to mountain mike's with a bunch of people and had a great time hanging out. val was passed around and did well for the most part, only got mad a few times. i realized that most of the times she gets pissed is due to a wet diaper so i will be more vigilant about it. sunday, woke up (relatively) early to head over the hill to meet up with the gang. since we were running late, we went to the diner first but a group was really late so we headed off to the beach. we were woefully unprepared but luckily, our group is well outfitted for outdoor life. jen and jennie had a canopy/popup tent each, sami and karen put up a tent, sue and sarah had a popup thing for the kids, as well as a crawl-thru house thing. it was really quite impressive. nice to hang out and chat with everyone, but we had to leave way too soon to get to liz's 2:30 game. such a bummer, but i realized that it was probably a good thing. any later and we would've gotten stuck in the traffic back over the hill. don't remember much from that game, i think they lost by a close one though. played in the ateam2 game, which was kinda frustrating. lots of hits and rough play on both sides, though i think we caused the majority of flattening. chuck gave up after giving up a couple goals and we just got tired. sorta fun, but i'm almost ready to stop playing this team. i need to make sure i public skate more though and until i'm sure i'll do that, i should stick to playing two teams. tobias i was talking to an engineer, for whom english is not her first language, about a timeout problem i've been having and we threw some ideas around to fix the situation. she thought for a second, then said, with all seriousness, "i can make a dump." *patpatpat* there, that's me patting myself on the back for not LMAO. my eyes may have watered but i did not laugh. and i totally thought of tobias from AD. =D Wednesday, July 19, 2006

scary Indonesia Had No Way of Warning Islanders. particularly scary, "We tried to radio them "but there was no way we had the time," he said. But even if they'd succeeded, without an automated system in place to pass the message on to villagers via loudspeakers on beaches or mobile phone text messages, the evacuation of significant numbers of people would have been unlikely." how can you rely on TEXT MESSAGES to evacuate? it's a beach resort, who brings their cell phone to the beach? hrm, ok, wait, this past weekend, several of us did, but i think i was the only one who pulled it out because i was taking pics and uploading them, so *i* might've seen the text alert but how would they know to send it to me since i don't live in the area nor do i have a local number. and i didn't even have it out much so even if i *did* get an alert, i probably would've never noticed it. not to mention, i used to test SMS and was told that SMS has a 70% success rate, which is far too low for emergency alerts to be effective. there should be loudspeakers all over the place. malaysia can do it, i don't see why we can't figure something out. val's first red packet liz walked in with the mail late last night and said that there was something my aunt. figured it was a card but it was a small letter envelope, so definitely not a card. inside was a red packet with a check sticking out of it. in the memo, "baby gift". i'm really quite touched that she sent a gift and am sorta floored, actually. i mean, wow. why? why do underwear designers feel the need to make girl underwear look like boy underwear? it's not adding a "feisty flair" to have the weiner flap. and i doubt that they're trying to be more "genderqueer friendly". I before E except after C? did you always recite this rule when spelling things with E-I in them? it doesn't apply more than i thought: feisty, deity, their, heir. applies: reprieve, sieve, receive, conceive, wiener. so that rule isn't as helpful as i thought since ultimately, you do need to know how it's spelled. why am i making this obvious comment? cuz, i hadn't really thought about it until yesterday when liz asked how to spell something and we both recited this line and went 'heyyy, wait'. ok, stop laughing now. RQotD: underwear do you have a favorite brand of underwear? i had been a devout j0ckey for her bikini wearer for years and years, and much to liz's chagrin, they were white. made laundry and shopping easy, but for her, i branched out to blue, black and gray. those were all the colors they made that i would tolerate wearing so that pretty much dictated what i got. after 15+ years (HOLY CRAP! could it even be 20?!), even i tired of them. every now and then, to get me to try something else, liz would buy me a couple random pairs, and i bought some others, tried vanity fair and barely there and some other fun, cartoon themed stuff. the vf wasn't bad, but too satiny and shiny so i feel like i'm wearing superman's underwear. the barely there felt...barely there. if i wanted to not feel like i have underwear on, i wouldn't be wearing any. except i have to wear underwear, just can't not. the cartoon stuff wasn't bad but not really what i want to wear all the time, not to mention hard to find since it's not a specific brand. i bought some fun ones in the last shopping spree at the great mall. while the waist felt good, the leg didn't have good elastic so they moved. what's up with that?! i need a wedgie like i need a weak wrist shot, so back to the drawing board. this was also my second try with the barely theres. then, for some reason, we were wandering the aisles of walm@rt. we have susan to blame for this. of all places to shop, i detest this one the most, seriously hate everything about it, even though i always find something there i "need" at a really good price. we found ourselves there one late night, i think looking for diapers and they were open late. i randomly picked up some hanes that i really, really liked. so much so that we went back to get more. damn it! i hate that place! wasn't pleased to find really cheap picture frames or the water bottle with a freezer gel pack in the middle either. no, not pleased at all. but after such a long time with jockey, i'm happy to find another brand/style i like, which means i'll now be scouring the interweb for more. woo! speddah moment i was rushing around this morning, par for the course but moreso because i was making an ambrosia salad for my very first lesbian potluck. haha! i thought i had transferred my wallet from one pair of shorts to another but when i got to work, my wallet wasn't in my back pocket. CRAP! i was driving a little like a maniac too, so whew for not getting pulled over. i get let into the building, where i see a co-worker come in from the other side of the building, so i follow him...nearly into the mens' room. oops! get to my desk and im liz and ask her to bring it when she picks me up. hours later, i ask if she found my wallet. not anywhere in my usual hiding places, damn! i jog my memory to the last time i used it, which was gas this morning and...ARGH! when i got gas, i was still in a rush so i must've shoved it into my front pocket. smooth. auntie conversation in reading a heartbreaking blog of a friend whose family are being hateful, i was thankful that, though my family can be trying, at least they're not mean to us. we don't talk or see each other often enough, they might not ever "get us" and might make dumb comments but there's no uncurrent of nasty, judgemental disapproval or childish head games. it makes me sad to hear that adults can be this way to one of their own. it also reminded me that i hadn't blogged about my conversation with my aunt, nor the second conversation i'd had with my mother within a month. neither caused any great excitement, which is why i didn't rush to document the event, but i figured i should, after procrastinating for so long. first, i called my mom to ask if she could put up my friends who were visiting shanghai next month. the conversation went well as she asked for details about the visit and then asked about val. wow! she showed interest but not in the grandmotherly way. 'sok, baby steps. she did lament again that she still hasn't sent anything, but eh, that's her procrastinating. hrm, wonder where i get that from? she hadn't talked to my aunt, which was a little disappointing, but i'm not sure how often they talk either and really, i just wasn't in the mood to get worked up over it. it was time. i called my aunt's cell phone and found her shopping with one of my grandmother's oldest friends, yook gah paw paw. i had always liked her, one of the few grandmothers who could speak english and actually listened to my answers with interest. she lived in nyc, played tennis and was just adorable, always warm and welcoming. she was also always delighted that i knew her as the zha zha noong grandmother, shanghainese for thank you. while i've hardly seen her more than a handful of times, there's always a special place in my heart for her. anyway, my aunt handed the phone over to her so i could say hello. when i asked how she was, she said, "i'm ok, hey, i'm 85, what do you think?" and laughed. still rad, i see. =D i think i'd like to be her when i get old. since she was distracted, it was a little difficult to have a real conversation, which, in hindsight, was probably not a bad thing. it was quick and fast, i'll try to see if i can remember it. me: hello? aunt: hello? me: hello? aunt: hello? me: it's andrea. aunt: hi! why are you calling me? i was just thinking about calling you! funny you call me! me: haha! aunt: i'm shopping with yook gah paw paw, say hello! me: nooo, that's ok, uh, hi, yook gah paw paw. exchange pleasantries, paw paw says, you called to talk to your auntie, bye! aunt: hello? me: (blurt) hey, we had a baby. aunt: whaaa? you adopted? going to? me: no, we had one, two months ago. aunt: what? who gave birth? you? me: NO! aunt: liz? me: yes! (why the hell would you think me?) aunt: is it yours? me: yes! aunt: you had it? me: no! aunt: how come you didn't tell me? me: we didn't tell anyone. aunt: oh. why? how...? me: (ugh) whaddya mean why? it's what couples do when they want kids. aunt: how? me: (?!) sperm, we bought sperm. aunt: you bought the worm? me: what? worm? no! sperm. sperm! aunt: why didn't you adopt me? me: (sigh, she's always on the lookout for someone to take care of her) hello, you're not a baby! aunt: do you need anything? me: yes, i need someone to come speak chinese to my baby! aunt: (mumble in background) what? me: never mind. aunt: how much did you pay for the worm? (insert unclear story about how she has a friend who spent $10k to either buy sperm, harvest eggs or be a surrogate, i couldn't figure it out. like i said, it was all very fast and disjointed.) me: huh? several clarifying volleys later, i think i finally figured out that she has a friend who was going to pay $10k for someone to be their surrogate. me: that's cheap! aunt: hey, i should've had him give you his worm...sperm...and had liz carry it. you could share! me: (words like "cockamamie", "stupid", "annoying" and "argh" go through my head) why would be want to do that?! aunt: ha, no? ok! (asks details about the baby, i oblige.) me: ok, i'll let you go. aunt: ok, ok! bye! want to go to china? i have frequent flier miles! oh! everyone is coming to the east coast for xmas again, boston! you go? me: kid? aunt: oh, ok, think about it, bye! according to my call log, that was an 8.5 minute long conversation. phew, a record. bad day for technology power outage this morning took out servers, which i'm connected to so my device has been offline for most of the day. glad it didn't happen tomorrow, otherwise i wouldn't be able to vpn in either. then, by coincidence or related to said outage, outlook has been acting up all day and ate my post about my conversation with my aunt and my mother, two separate conversations. i usually write up a draft in an email, then copy/paste into blogger since that used to eat my posts too. sigh, there is no winning today. let's see, what else? email isn't being delivered to liz's sidekick, nothing i can do, people are working on it. last night, i tried to burn a cd but when i hooked up my ipod to my lappy, i didn't want it linked to the itunes on my lappy, which, if i interpreted correctly, would replace my ipod with what was on my lappy, which had nothing so it would erase everything? downloaded a tool to allow me to see hidden files, got my music onto my desktop but then it wouldn't import when i dragged the folder onto itunes. SIGH. why can't shit JUST WORK? like the damn airport extreme. hooked up the printer to it, connected my powerbook in a heartbeat and printed wirelessly from it just fine but now i'm struggling with getting the old 7 year old pc to talk to it. @#$%&!!! holy crap i can't believe it's been two months since val arrived, TWO MONTHS!!! it's been very cool so far, she's happier and grinnier than ever and last night, she was half asleep from 1am-3am, fussed for a little bit, then slept from 3-8:30! excellent. she also did well with her first unfamiliar sitter last night, crying for only 10 minutes so liz could continue her triumphant return to the ice and play her first game with me. val was raging pretty hard while we trying to leave, breaking my heart with her wails and arching herself out of the carseat. i wanted to bail on the game but liz managed to calm her down and get her strapped in. so, the game. the other team had a short bench of 8 and we not only had a pretty full bench, but we were stacked. i think there were only 4 of us that didn't play on the ateam1 and holy crap, it was a fast game, ridiculously fast. i don't think i ever skated so fast, but clearly playing with much faster guys forced me to skate as fast and hard as i could. holy crap, my groin hurts, which usually means i skated hard. (jennie, don't read this!) must remember to put mouthguard in when playing coed. someone came up from behind and swept out my left leg, causing me to do a comical flop on my butt. i landed and crunched my teeth together and thought, ah HA! this is why people always ask if hockey players have their teeth. unbeknownst to them, it's not from fighting, it's from falling and biting down with no mouthguard. luckily it wasn't an expensive epiphany as my teeth were intact. it was a fun game, and it was SO NOT beginner if we had a stacked bench and came out with a 1-1 tie. their goalie was ridiculously good, stealing many goals from us. after the game, he took off his helmet and omg, what a baby! must've been 18 or thereabouts. nice guy, awesome goalie. picked up the wee one, got home around 1, fell asleep on the couch until 2:30, stumbled into bed around 3, fed and changed her, put her down, slept until she woke up around 8, fed and changed her, put her back down in her bassinet, where she was lonely so took her back out and held her until we both fell asleep until my alarm went off. thinking i'd get into work somewhat early (before 10), i made the fatal mistake of snoozing a few cycles and then turning it off because i was about to get up. woke up at 11:30, cursed and showered and took off. i've been hearing about people's schedules for their kids and really hoping that val will be able to be on the no-schedule method. not interesting to you but here's an excellent SK3 review on our forum. i always like to hear how our device stacks up to the others. i know i'm biased but to have someone else do an unbiased review is always nice. and again, i'm biased, but our UI is solid and easy to use. weekend update as usual, can't remember what we did on friday. gimme a sec, it'll come back to me. i know neither of us had hockey...probably had...dinner...and then called it a night? sigh, who knows. saturday was a leisurely day. headed to denny's for breakfast/lunch, but i really wanted ravs so i turned around. they were closed for summer vacation so we went to aqui's where i should really learn to stick to what i like and not try new things there. went to babies r us and since val was wearing a cute onesie, we took the opportunity to take even more pictures. she was her cute self, posing in all the positions the woman put her in, then we were to select the pics we want in whatever layout we wanted. i thought i was good with the handful of wallets and 4x6s but then she pulled out the montage bit. it's a racket, i tell you, luring unsuspecting new parents within their grasp and then, when you're not paying attention, WHAM! you're agreeing to every layout, border, font permutation the woman comes up with. i managed to walk away, but then liz uttered the fatal blow, "oh look, for ten dollars more, we would get 6 billion prints*!" who am i to argue? ok, do it. *that's* how to get you. for another dollar, you could get this and for five more, we could do this. sigh. * - number exaggerated. yep, they got another set of unsuspecting first time parents. next time, we will not get suckered. you! you stop laughing right this minute! ok, *I* will not get suckered because i won't be there, so ha! since we had so many pictures, we realized we needed frames so we wandered to aaron bros, who was having a HUGE sale, buy one frame, get the next "copper dotted" frame for a penny. i'm usually skeptical of these sales, as the ones that're marked are usually ones that aren't worth the penny, but i was hella surprised and walked off with a ton of frames. we need to go back and get more...you know, for all the monthly pictures we're not going to get suckered into. (QUIT LAUGHING!) went home to hang for a bit, did we nap? i cut this and last month's pictures apart, filled some picture frames, then napped? since lucinda and jen were in the area, we met them for a lovely 7 courses of beef (it's not as big as it sounds, but it is quite a bit of food), which was fun. food was excellent, as was the company, i was sad when it was time to go. val did well, got a little fussy (wet diaper) but was good for the most part. whew. sunday, went to denny's for breakfast, then went up to susan's to drop val off with her for a few hours while liz coached my red team...to VICTOLY!. i had an ok game, despite having not skated since father's day. blech. they redid the ice but it was a weird dry slush. normally, i ice left and right, but i threw the puck hard up the left side so i could change up, but instead of icing, it trickled just past the blue line. my O made it to the puck first and scored! woo! or was this the one where jean got it behind the net and passed it to betsie, who put it away? can't remember now, all i remember is lindsey telling the D to keep doing that so the O can get it. i think cheddah scored the second goal, but there was confusion as the refs conferred about it, so we all thought it was a faceoff drop, except they skated to center ice! woo, but damn, i missed it! mary scored the other one off, which might've been the first one, not sure, but the O all crashed the net really well. complete coverage! excellent. sigh, with 56 seconds left and us leading 3-2, i got called for high sticking, which was such crap because i was the one that got clocked on the right side of my head! a red jersey was standing in front of the goal, i realized "ah crap, open man!" and rushed to cover her. she saw me coming and threw her shoulder hard into me. wtf! she bounced off of me and as she went down, she jerked her stick up and whacked me upside the head as she fell. AND I GOT CALLED?! we had been tangling all game with increasing contact, which really sucked because i hate when it gets like that, but this was ridiculous. she's a solid skater so her falling seemed on purpose and she threw that shoulder because she was pissed i had her covered a lot of the game. shitty play, shitty talk, unsportsmanlike, makes me mad. i also got a sarcastic "it's about time" from another player who seemed to pick up speed just so she could crash into me. you know what? whatever, quit your whining and put the puck where your mouth is. they pulled their goalie so it was 6 on 4 for a minute. i felt sick for putting my team in that situation but they dug down deep and kept their heads in it, banging the puck out of the zone every time and keeping them from scoring. when the buzzer buzzed, i let out a big WHEW! and yay, we won! a close one, 3-2, but still, a win! we played well as a team, making some good passes and being in good position. yay! =) for you O types, i'm allowed to 1. lift your stick, 2. push you out of my crease, and 3. cover you/tie you up so you can't score. do not expect me to stand back and let you take free shots at my goalie. and really, kid around all you like, but don't make bitchy comments at me, it only changes my opinion of you and makes me cover you harder. anyway, ran outta there to go back to susan's house to eat the yummy chicken bill had made for us, then followed up with DQ. mmm! got home late, but it was a good weekend filled with good food and good people, so it was perfect. =) Saturday, July 08, 2006

looooong night liz went to belmont to do the skillz class last night. not 30 minutes after she left, val began to rage and rage. then, she transformed into Teh Rage and raged some more. did i say rage? i meant RAGED. red face, tears squeezed through eyelids tightly shut against the world. let me tell you, there is nothing worse than watching your kid be in pain and being totally helpless to make it better. nothing helped. changed diapers three times, couldn't tell if they were pee-wet or sweat-from-raging wet. changed them anyway. for the price of those diapers, it was worth it to see her coo at herself in the mirror for a second before she realized it was quiet and continued RAGING. made her do situps/leg raises, which helped a little bit, but by and large, her tummy was hard with gas. =( did tummy rubs, massaged her back, tried the pacifier, walked around, patted her back, dressed her warmer, undressed her, put her face down on my lap and pat her back, bounced her on my knee. she'd settle down and root around, but the second i put a bottle in her mouth, the rage would start again. sigh. i was surprisingly calm and didn't give up, just felt awful that i couldn't fix it. crank calling liz with her wailing in the background made me feel better though. =D liz got home and of course val settled down. put them to bed, got a second wind and tried to get my old ass PC hooked up to my new airport extreme so we could print. except that nothing worked. the fricking job would spool but never print, saying the printer was busy. wtf? fiddled around with it for hours, then gave up and mailed the file to my mac and printed it from there, except the printer didn't seem to work correctly, the toner was wet and streaked to the touch. @#$%&!!! fiddled some more, replaced the ink heads, couldn't figure out how to run a diagnostic thing from the mac. i could on the pc but it still didn't want to talk to the printer. @#$%&!!! gave up after a couple hours and crawled into bed. good thoughts one of dena's babies, her "token tricolor" basset, chelsea has an inoperable tumor in her mouth that is growing fast. please keep them in your thoughts. weekend update friday, val and i went to watch liz's first game back to maroon and she did great, making nice passes and getting an unaccredited assist in a nice 6-2(?) win. an excellent game to make your triumphant return to hockey! woo! saturday, uhm, went to play with the girls? oh wait, thanks to susan's memory, i remember now that we went to the great mall to go shopping. sunday, uhm, don't know what we did during the day. i thought about working on the now-neglected front lawn, but it was hot so val and i napped and napped, then went to see the devil wears pr@da with ellaine. went to bob's for some mediocre chinese food since they're open late and we hadn't been there in forever. lady fawned over val and stared for much of the night. very disconcerting. susan came over after her night of boozing to hold val for awhile. monday, went to work, went to belmont to watch val while liz practiced with the gay games team. watched a little bit of the practice, but just spent most of the time staring at val's funny expressions. i think we found ourselves at el torito for an unsatisfying dinner because giovanni's was closed and we couldn't think of any place else to eat. tuesday, met lucinda and jen for the chili festival in palo alto. it was fun, but the chili was a little disappointing. some were bland, some were soupy, some were all meat, some were weird. there is no excuse for bad chili. i liked two, elmo's and the PA fire fighters' but in the end, i like my own. =D anyway, it was fun, something different. afterwards, went over to bill and susan's for a little bbq and hanging out. bill made my most favoritest burger in the world, which i scarfed and attempted another. i have no self-control, as i also had a double helping of susan's homemade vanilla ice cream. i felt my fat tripling but did i stop? nooo. wednesday, worked from home so i could go see cars with val and the girls. it was diaper days at the theater, the one day out of the month where people could bring their kids with them to watch a movie. it was PACKED! there was plenty of crying and talking and general chaos, but it was actually really nice to be able to relax and watch the movie without worrying that val's crying might bother other people. she didn't make much noise and slept through most of it, quite the opposite of the devil/prada outing. i was definitely much more relaxed and the noise didn't bother me at all, which i was surprised about. sam and riley were surprisingly uninterested in the movie but were good despite it, eating their apple slices and popcorn and being quiet for how boring it must've been for them. we took up 6 seats, liz and i on opposite ends and they ran between us, trying to get past my legs that were holding them hostage while keeping out the kid next to me that was intent on invading our space. at one point, riley sat in my lap, which was really cute, then sam wanted up. a little squishy but we made it work. sam lost interest and went to sit in susan's lap. riley went to sit there too but then returned to my lap shortly thereafter and snuggled in. all in all, i'd say it was successful even if i was beat when we got home. worked for a few hours, napped briefly (ok, passed out over my laptop), then had a few more productive hours before a late dinner at chili's, followed by a toffee crack run to susan's to cap off the night. eek in a split second, lives are ruined. three killed in Menlo Park crash. they had their seatbelts on. the 18 y.o. driver was arrested for "vehicular homicide and participating in an illegal speed contest", she had just gotten her license in february. damn. ugh, another bicyclist is hit and dragged 60 feet. and eek, another driver dies after crashing into a divider. WOW dang, we have some very creative fans. check out the Addicted to Sidekick video. love the little girl in the back dancing all the moves! cool trivia, the names on the street signs are the names of the moderators of our forum. very cool. random - we get much more attention when going out with val. the people at hot pot city now not only know us on sight but how long since our last visit. it's simutaneously cool and creepy. and i feel like they're hovering more, ready to leap into helpful action should we look needy. i get alot more looks now, sympathetic ones if she's crying, appreciative ones if she's not. people, especially parents of young ones, will stop to chat, ask her age, sex and coo over her cuteness. those that aren't bold enough to talk to me directly will steal a look at her as we pass each other and i get a proud thrill when they smack their friends and say "omg, cute babieeeeee!!!" - got my mac up and running again after reinstalling the OS but sidetrack and t3xtpander got blown away. lame! luckily i remembered the app names and redownloaded, but seriously, wtf! the install was supposed to preserve my stuff and restore everything. - pretzels and nutella - SO GOOD. trying not to just suck it all out with a straw or find anything semi-edible just to dip. beef jerky is probably not a good idea. i want to be like sam and riley and smear this all over my face, but since i'm at work, i'll refrain. [update: peppered beef jerky was a little odd, but not *awful* awful.] - i miss gus' clippity clopping and deking with his toys. i love our bassets but gus was really no trouble at all, aside from his drooling all over the fricking place after drinking water because he had no teeth to keep it in. i keep looking around for him, it's hard to break the habit after counting to four for 5 years. i get to three and go, 'oh'. sigh. - yay, a day off but boo, disappointed that we didn't get monday off for the heck of it. - went to see the devil wears prada last night. watched the first 30 minutes before val tired of it and wanted out. settled her in the hallway, walked back in, waaaah, walked back out, settled again (jet li has a new movie out, fearless? must see!), walked in again, waaaah, walked outside around parking lot, waaaah! walked to car, changed diaper, bah, how are there NO WIPES IN THE CAR??? i had unearthed 3 just the other day! wiped her heinie with her diaper, contemplated taking water and napkins but it wasn't that messy and she wasn't pissed. hung out outside, returned her to the carrier, waaaah, took her out, walked around some more, put her back in the carrier, waaaah. changed another diaper, then just carried her in my arms until she fell asleep. snuck back into the theater and caught the last 30 minutes. somehow, that was just plenty. went to bob's for dinner and then home. |
